Truck / Crab Ride — Defending

Defending the truck in no-gi — the calf slicer, the kneebar and your back, all live at once. Free the hooked leg, do not turn away, and use the effort it costs to hold.

The truck from underneath. The attacker is behind and beneath you with one of your legs hooked and controlled, attacking the leg while sitting on the road to your back.

What makes this position expensive to defend is that you are answering two questions at once. The calf slicer and the kneebar are live, and so is the back — and the escapes for those point in different directions.

The attacker is working here too. Unlike the saddle, the truck is held rather than settled into, which is the one lever a defender has.

Elevated RiskTruck / Crab Ride (Defending) is an elevated risk technique. The calf slicer compresses the calf against the shin bone with the knee as the fulcrum — slower than a heel hook and capable of real tissue damage. The kneebar from the same position loads the knee in extension. Neither carries the near-instant timeline of an inside heel hook, which makes tapping late more tempting and no less costly. Serious injury can occur Medium by leg-lock standards. That is a relative statement — it means seconds rather than a fraction of one..

If you are new to this technique: read this section before anything else. Understanding the danger is part of understanding the technique.

The person applying the technique is responsible for releasing immediately.
