Problem

Standing up from supine while a partner controls one ankle from the feet.

Tell the room

Top carries one ankle above the bottom's hip line and never stops working. Only the bottom can score. The bottom scores by standing to both feet, balanced and facing the top.

Setup

Start with one ankle in hand. Bottom lies supine, feet toward the top. Top stands in front, both hands on one of the bottom's ankles.

Score

Both feet on the mat.

  • Bottom — stands to a balanced base facing the top and holds it one second
  • Top — does not score. The round measures the bottom's time to stand

Rules

  1. Legs only for the top. Touch the bottom from the hip crease down, nothing above it.
  2. Top stays standing. No kneeling, no dropping bodyweight onto the bottom.
  3. Bottom posts on the mat. No grips on the top player's legs or clothing.

Adjust

Easier

Top holds the ankle with one hand, so the bottom can turn and clear the leg sooner.

Harder

Bottom may grip the top's legs, so a failed stand-up can become a takedown attempt.

If it stalls

If the bottom kicks while lying flat, ask them where the free foot has to be before they pull.
