Truck Banana Split

The banana split from the truck in no-gi — the common entry, and the one the position is built for. Your legs stretch one leg, your arms pull the other, and the tension runs diagonally across the hips.

The banana split taken from the truck, and the common way anyone meets this submission. The attacker is beneath and behind with one of the opponent’s legs trapped between both of theirs; the second leg is pulled away with the arms, and the hips are separated in two directions at once.

The division of labour is what makes this version work. Your legs own one leg completely, so both hands are free for the other — which means the split is generated by extending your own body rather than by reaching with a spare arm. That is the opposite of the saddle version, where the entanglement is holding one leg and a single free arm has to capture the other.

It shares the truck with the calf slicer, the twister, the kneebar, the ankle lock and the toe hold, and unlike those it does not attack a joint at the end of a limb. It attacks the adductors and the hip joint, which is why it is available when every foot-and-knee answer has been made.

Elevated RiskTruck Banana Split is an elevated risk technique. Forced abduction of the hips beyond their range, loading the adductor group and the hip joint capsule. There is no single ligament that fails first, which is exactly why people ride it too long — the pain builds broadly rather than sharply, and adductor tears take months. Serious injury can occur Slower than any leg lock in the family and no safer for it. The damage is muscular and capsular rather than ligamentous, so the warning is real but the temptation to endure it is stronger..
