Outside ashi from the defending side. The attacker has an outside entanglement on your leg, and from it the outside heel hook, the straight ankle lock, the kneebar and the tren lock are all available.
This is a more committed position than ashi garami and the differential says so. You have real options and fewer of them than one position back.
It is also the one entanglement on this list where the defender has a catalogued counter-attack rather than only an escape.
Elevated RiskOutside Ashi Garami (Defending) is an elevated risk technique. The outside heel hook rotates the tibia outward against the knee. Outside rotation gives marginally more warning than inside, which is a difference of degree. The kneebar available here loads the joint in extension with none. Serious injury can occur Short to medium. More than the inside positions and not enough to deliberate..
If you are new to this technique: read this section before anything else. Understanding the danger is part of understanding the technique.
The person applying the technique is responsible for releasing immediately.
