Butterfly ashi from the defending side. The attacker has a butterfly hook under your leg and an ashi structure on it, and the hook is doing something specific: taking your weight off the mat.

Elevation is the control here. A leg the attacker is carrying is a leg you cannot base on, cannot post with, and cannot easily withdraw.

That also names the escape. Get the weight back down and the position degrades on its own.

Elevated RiskButterfly Ashi Garami (Defending) is an elevated risk technique. The ashi structure makes the standard outside-line finishes available — the straight ankle lock and the outside heel hook. Elevation adds a fall risk during the escape if the defender pulls the leg free without controlling the descent. Serious injury can occur Medium. The elevation has to be maintained, which costs the attacker something and gives you a little room..
