50/50 Ankle Lock

The straight ankle lock taken from the inside line — 50/50, backside 50/50 and diagonal ashi. The foot is laced, the blade of the forearm sits across the Achilles, and the finish is a bridge.
What separates it from the ashi version is that the entanglement is shared. In 50/50 your legs are on them exactly as theirs are on you, which means the ankle lock is a race rather than an attack: whoever laces first and bridges first wins, and both players know it.
That symmetry also makes it the most-used ankle lock in competition under restrictive rules, because 50/50 is legal almost everywhere and the straight ankle lock is the one leg attack that travels with it.
Elevated Risk50/50 Ankle Lock is an elevated risk technique. Compression of the Achilles and the ankle joint through plantarflexion, with the bridge supplying the force. Slower and more forgiving than a heel hook — genuinely so, which is why it is the foundational leg lock rather than an elevated one. Serious injury can occur Longer than anything else in the family.
