Problem
Clearing knee shield to advance position while developing knee shield offense from bottom.
Tell the room
Top clears the knee shield to a pin. Bottom must attack from the shield within 10 seconds or the top player scores. Pins hold for 3 seconds.
Setup
Start in half guard. Bottom has the knee shield across the chest plus a far-side underhook or frame. Top has a crossface or collar tie.
Score
One point per exchange.
- Top — clears the shield to side control or mount
- Bottom — sweeps to top or submits
- Bottom — recovers full guard with both legs free
Rules
- No leg locks. Neither player attacks the legs.
- Attack from the shield. Ten passive seconds from the bottom scores for the top.
- Top cannot disengage. The passer stays engaged instead of backing out to reset.
Adjust
Easier
Drop the 10-second passive clock so both players can explore the knee shield structure before they have to attack from it.
Harder
Add leg locks for both players and let the top player backstep, so the shield becomes one tool among many.
If it stalls
If the bottom player never attacks, count the ten seconds out loud or have a partner call time.
