Deny the Knee Wedge
guard
Grapplers Collective, Deny the Knee Wedge. 3-5 min rounds.
Problem
Keeping a passer's shin out of the inside knee line so they can't force half guard and steal the bottom player's recovery options.
Tell the room
Passer steps a shin between the legs to touch the pit of the bottom's inside knee. Bottom clears the shin and re-closes the inside line. Three clean shin-to-knee-pit touches win the round for the passer.
Setup
Start at open-guard distance. Passer in combat base or standing, pressing to split the thighs. Bottom supine or on a hip, feet and knees live.
Score
Three clean shin touches.
- Passer — shin to the pit of the inside knee, three times
- Bottom — clears an inserted shin and re-closes the inside line
- Bottom — comes to a seated base or recovers a live guard
Rules
- Score through the middle. No going around the legs and no upper-body-only pass.
- No crossed ankles or locks. The bottom closes the line with live feet and knees.
- No backing off. The passer keeps pressuring the inside and cannot disengage to reset.
Adjust
Easier
Passer starts from the knees at half speed and calls which side they are attacking.
Harder
Passer pairs an around threat with the inside entry, so the bottom must read which pass is coming.
If it stalls
If the shin keeps getting buried, the bottom is reaching for the passer's leg — have them cover their own knee pit first.
