Single Leg Finish

TakedownsStandingIntermediate

takedowns

Grapplers Collective, Single Leg Finish. 3-5 min rounds.

Problem

Finishing the connected single leg — and the front-headlock-with-leg counter when the attack stalls.

Tell the room

Attacker starts locked on a single leg and must finish without letting go. Defender escapes clean or counters to a front headlock with a leg. The counter needs the leg entanglement for 3 seconds.

Setup

Start on a connected single. Attacker's hands clasped above the knee, head on the chest, one knee down. Defender on the free leg, open hand framing the shoulder.

Score

Finish, escape, or counter.

  • Attacker — back control, chest-to-back with an arm around the waist
  • Attacker — both their feet off the mat for a second, or a hand posted
  • Defender — leg released, both feet planted, zero contact
  • Defender — front headlock plus a leg wrapped in, held 3 seconds

Rules

  1. Hands never come off the leg. If the grip breaks before a score, point to the defender.
  2. Don't stall on the frame. Five seconds framing without progress toward escape or counter, point to the attacker.
  3. No submissions. The counter scores by control, not by choke.

Adjust

Easier

Drop the lift and the headlock counter: going behind or running the pipe, or clean escape.

Harder

Allow submissions from the front headlock. Give the attacker a 5-second clock to pick a finish.

If it stalls

If the attacker squeezes and waits, cue: “Your hips finish this, not your arms.”
