Triangle Finishing

Grapplers Collective, Triangle Finishing. 3-5 min rounds.

Problem

Converting locked triangle position into actual choke finishes.

Tell the room

Bottom has the triangle locked. Finish the choke by cutting the angle and pulling the head down. Top escapes the head or stacks and passes. Holding the finishing angle for 20 seconds also scores.

Setup

Start with the triangle locked. Leg over the neck, ankle behind the opposite knee, legs clasped. Top keeps partial posture with both hands free. Both bottom hands free.

Score

Finish, or hold the angle 20 seconds.

  • Bottom — finishes the choke with a tap or verbal tap
  • Bottom — holds the angle perpendicular to their shoulders, head down, 20 seconds
  • Top — frees the head and recovers posture, or stacks and passes

Rules

  1. No armbar from the triangle. Choke finishes only; the armbar exit is closed.
  2. Start from the lock. No entries — every rep begins with the triangle already on.
  3. Top keeps partial posture. Head inside the lock, not yet broken down, hands free.

Adjust

Easier

Top escapes at 70%. Bottom works one finishing detail per round — angle only, or head pull only.

Harder

Start from closed guard. Bottom must enter the triangle, and the armbar transition scores too.

If it stalls

If the choke never comes despite good effort, check the lock — ankle seating, leg configuration, neck not shoulder.
