Straight Jacket Back Control

Grapplers Collective, Straight Jacket Back Control. 3-5 min rounds.

Problem

Holding back control with hooks and straight-jacket arm control, without ever clasping hands for a strangle.

Tell the room

Attacker keeps chest-to-back, both hooks, and one of the defender's arms trapped — with no hands clasped. Defender turns in to face or gets flat. The attacker scores by holding all three for 45 seconds.

Setup

Start in straight-jacket control. Attacker chest-to-back with both hooks in, one arm over the shoulder trapping the near arm, the other under the far armpit gripping the wrist.

Score

Hold the control for 45 seconds.

  • Attacker — chest-to-back, both hooks, and one arm controlled for 45 unbroken seconds
  • Defender — turns fully chest-to-chest, on top or bottom
  • Defender — gets their back flat with the attacker displaced from behind

Rules

  1. Hands never clasp. No gable, S-grip, or palm-to-palm; the hands stay independent.
  2. No submissions. Strangles and joint attacks stay off the table all round.
  3. Keep an arm controlled. At least one defender arm stays trapped at all times, or the clock resets.
  4. No guard pulls. The defender scores by turning to face or going back-flat.

Adjust

Easier

Drop the window to 30 seconds and accept one arm trapped, the other free, as enough.

Harder

Let the defender hand-fight freely, gripping and peeling the attacker's wrists, elbows, and forearms.

If it stalls

If the attacker keeps drifting toward a hand clasp, cue: "Trap their elbow, not their throat."
