Rebuild the Shell
guard
Grapplers Collective, Rebuild the Shell. 4-5 min rounds.
Problem
Recovering the defensive shell after the passer already has an underhook and a knee on the thigh, before the chest settles into the pass.
Tell the room
The passer already has the underhook and a knee on the thigh. Bottom rebuilds the shell before the chest lands. The rebuilt shell and the finished pass each hold for 3 seconds.
Setup
Start mid-pass, underhook in. Bottom on their side, top knee pried down, one live frame. Passer driving toward chest-to-chest with a knee on the thigh.
Score
Hold for 3 seconds.
- Bottom — rebuilds the shell: knee back inside the underhook, chest cleared
- Bottom — recovers a knee or foot frame in front, or wrestles up
- Passer — lands chest-to-chest with the legs cleared
- Passer — reaches mount or takes the back with a body lock
Rules
- The passer keeps driving. No stalling on the underhook; keep hunting chest-to-chest.
- No turtling. The bottom player rebuilds facing the passer and may not give up the back.
- Nothing below the knee. No grips there, so no leg locks and no leg drags.
Adjust
Easier
Start with the underhook in but no knee on the thigh yet, at 60-70 percent.
Harder
Let the passer chain to mount or the back, and add a shot clock for the rebuild.
If it stalls
If the knee will not come back in, reset them to recovering the knee inside the elbow first.
