Takedown to Pass
transitions
Grapplers Collective, Takedown to Pass. 3-5 min rounds.
Problem
Connecting takedown completion directly into guard passing without pausing.
Tell the room
Attacker: finish the takedown and go straight into a pass. Defender: recover guard, reverse to top, or stop the takedown for 60 seconds. The passing position must be held for 3 seconds.
Setup
Start in a matched collar tie. Both standing, same-side collar tie, free hand uncommitted. The attacker's lead foot sits outside the defender's, giving them the angle.
Score
Attacker passes, defender recovers.
- Attacker: takedown into side control, mount, north-south, or knee-on-belly held 3 seconds
- Defender: recover guard with both feet engaged and controlling grips
- Defender: reverse to top after the takedown, or block it for 60 seconds
Rules
- The takedown is the start. A takedown without a pass does not score.
- No guard pulls. The defender fights standing, then fights to recover on the ground.
- Play stays continuous. No pause and no standing back up between takedown and ground.
Adjust
Easier
Start from a body lock clinch, extend the defender's survival window to 90 seconds, and allow two takedown attempts per role.
Harder
Start at open distance with no grips, cut the defender's survival window to 45 seconds, and add ground submissions.
If it stalls
If takedowns land but never lead to a pass, start on the ground from the landing position and work the first 5 seconds.
