TOP PLAYER (ATTACKER)

POSITION

Knees-on-knees in the double leg, clasped around both legs above the knee, head at the hip.

OBJECTIVE

Drive until a hip touches the mat, then keep it there. Pin the hips, or cover both hips with the chest.

CONSTRAINTS

Never let the hips rise. If they clear the mat before a score, the defender takes the point. Pin before you finish. Strangles and joint locks score nothing until the pin or cover is complete. The defender must stand. Pulling guard or turtling gives the point to the attacker. Reset when the attacker holds the defender's hips on the mat for a continuous 5 seconds; when the attacker covers both hips chest-to-chest or chest-to-back with weight over the hipline; when the hips clear the mat before a score; when the defender stands with both feet on the mat, hips off the floor, and no contact; or when the defender pulls guard or turtles. 3-5 min rounds.

WIN CONDITION

Hold the defender's hips on the mat for a continuous 5 seconds; cover both hips chest-to-chest or chest-to-back with weight over the hipline; or score if the defender pulls guard or turtles.

BOTTOM PLAYER (DEFENDER)

POSITION

Holds still until one hip touches the mat, then it goes live.

OBJECTIVE

Stand up. The only way out is to the feet.

CONSTRAINTS

Same never-let-the-hips-rise, pin-before-you-finish, stand-only, and named reset rules. 3-5 min rounds.

WIN CONDITION

Both feet on the mat, hips off the floor, no contact; or the hips clear the mat before a score.

Grapplers Collective, Double Leg Pin. 3-5 min rounds.

Problem

Holding a resisting partner's hips on the mat after the double leg lands.

Tell the room

The attacker drives the double leg until a hip touches the mat, then keeps it there. The defender's only way out is standing up. Pin the hips for 5 seconds, or cover both hips with your chest.

Setup

Start knees-on-knees in the double leg. Attacker clasped around both legs above the knee, head at the hip. Defender holds still until one hip touches the mat, then it goes live.

Score

Keep the hips on the mat.

  • Attacker: hold the defender's hips on the mat for a continuous 5 seconds
  • Attacker: cover both hips chest-to-chest or chest-to-back, weight over the hipline
  • Defender: both feet on the mat, hips off the floor, no contact

Rules

  1. Never let the hips rise. If they clear the mat before a score, the defender takes the point.
  2. Pin before you finish. Strangles and joint locks score nothing until the pin or cover is complete.
  3. The defender must stand. Pulling guard or turtling gives the point to the attacker.

Adjust

Easier

Drop the pin to 3 seconds, and count sustained chest-on-hipline contact for 3 seconds.

Harder

Require the chest-to-back cover, no hip-pin shortcut, on a 20-second clock. Miss it and the defender scores.

If it stalls

If the attacker climbs toward the head, cue: “Your weight pays for the pin. The closer to their hips, the cheaper.”
