Connection Climb
transitions
Grapplers Collective, Connection Climb. 4-5 min rounds.
Problem
Chaining a single leg upward through the hips to shoulder-line control by breaking the opponent down between every level.
Tell the room
The attacker starts on a connected single leg and climbs to the hips, then the shoulders. Break them down before each upgrade, and never release a grip before the next is locked. Hold the shoulder-line connection for 3 seconds to finish the climb.
Setup
Freeze on a connected single leg. Attacker's hands clasped above the defender's knee, head to the chest. Defender upright on the free leg, one hand framing the shoulder.
Score
Climb leg to hips to shoulders.
- Attacker: a second mat contact unlocks a hip-line grip, body lock, seatbelt, or bear hug
- Attacker: chest, shoulder, or head on the mat unlocks a shoulder-line grip, front or back
- Attacker: hold the shoulder-line connection for 3 seconds to score
- Defender: disconnect fully and reach neutral standing distance with no contact
Rules
- No upgrade without a breakdown. Switch levels only after the defender touches the mat beyond the captured leg.
- Keep what you have. Hold each connection until the next one is established.
- The defender must escape, not survive. Stalling scores nothing; break contact and reach neutral.
Adjust
Easier
Run only the first two levels. Hold the hip-line connection for 3 seconds to win.
Harder
Score the third level from back-side shoulder control only; front grips no longer count.
If it stalls
If the attacker loses the connection mid-climb, ask: “Did they still have a base when you upgraded?”
