Underhook Takedown

takedowns

Grapplers Collective, Underhook Takedown. 3-5 min rounds.

Problem

Pummeling skills and weight-based takedown mechanics from underhook position.

Tell the room

Start with light hand contact and no grips. Pummel in, and score any takedown that starts from an established underhook. An underhook means your arm is under theirs with your hand on their back.

Setup

Start with light hand contact. Athletic stances, wrist or biceps touch only. No underhook, no dominant grips, neither player has inside position.

Score

Takedown from an established underhook.

  • Either player scores any takedown finished from an underhook they established first
  • Trips, hip throws, duck unders, knee taps, and single legs all count

Rules

  1. Earn the underhook first. Takedowns without an established underhook do not score.
  2. Never break contact. One arm stays in contact at all times; full separation costs a point.
  3. Finish on your feet. No guard pulls, no sacrifice throws.

Adjust

Easier

Start from over-under — one underhook each — so reading weight is the whole task.

Harder

The takedown must land in side control, mount, or back held 3 seconds; counters score double.

If it stalls

If a player wins the underhook and holds it, start a 5-second shot clock. The position expires.
