standup

Grapplers Collective, First Grip Wins. Same game also written with first-to-5 / 2–3 min rounds on their Eco/CLA Starter Pack.

Problem

Athletes avoid initial hand contact, waiting passively or grabbing whatever grip is available without purpose.

Tell the room

Start standing at arm's length with no grips. First to establish a dominant grip configuration scores. The grip must hold against one strip attempt.

Setup

Both players standing one arm's length apart in an upright athletic stance, weight balanced. No grips and no contact at the start.

Score

First to a stable dominant grip they cannot strip. Collar tie plus wrist, or collar plus sleeve. Two-on-one on either arm. Double underhooks, chest to chest. Body lock with the hands connected.

Rules

  1. No takedowns. Hand fight only. Nothing goes to the mat.
  2. Engage within 5 seconds.
  3. Stay inside 2m × 2m. No circling out or backing away.

Adjust

Easier

Score one configuration only (first to a collar tie).

Harder

Stripping their grip before it is stable also scores.

If it stalls

Show what counts as a dominant configuration before the next round (task clarification, not a technique demo).
