Guillotine Exchange

Grapplers Collective, Guillotine Exchange. 3-5 min rounds.

Problem

Guillotine attack and defense from standing and scramble positions.

Tell the room

Attacker finishes the locked guillotine or keeps it. Defender frees the head and drives to top or postures to neutral standing. Holding the locked guillotine for 15 seconds also scores for the attacker.

Setup

Start with the guillotine locked. Attacker standing, arm-in guillotine, hands clasped, head on the choking side. Defender bent over, head trapped, both hands framing on the hips.

Score

Finish, hold 15 seconds, or escape.

  • Attacker — taps the defender, or holds the locked guillotine for 15 seconds
  • Defender — frees the head to side control or to neutral standing

Rules

  1. No regripping. Release the guillotine and the exchange is over; the defender scores.
  2. No guard pulling. The defender solves it standing or drives through to top.
  3. No other submissions. Only the guillotine scores, and no counter-submissions.

Adjust

Easier

Start with one hand around the neck, unclasped, and run the defender at 70%.

Harder

Start standing with no grip. The attacker catches the guillotine live and may pull guard with it locked.

If it stalls

If the defender never frees the head, start the grip higher — closer to the chin than the throat.
