Lateral Leg Clearance
passing
Grapplers Collective, Lateral Leg Clearance. 5-6 min rounds.
Problem
Toreando-family passing coordination — grip stripping with directional changes.
Tell the room
Top clears both legs to one side and pins, keeping a hand on the legs the whole way. Bottom gets the legs back in front. Chest-to-chest contact holds for 3 seconds.
Setup
Start with hands on the knees. Top standing, both hands on the knees. Bottom supine with feet on the hips or floating, hands free.
Score
Three seconds chest-to-chest.
- Top — side control, knee on belly, or north-south
- Bottom — recovers any guard with the legs back between them
- Bottom — sweeps to top
Rules
- Keep a hand on the legs. At least one hand stays on the legs until you pin.
- Stay on your feet. No dropping to the knees to pass.
- Pass outside only. No knee cuts or inside passes.
- Bottom grips below the elbows. No collar or sleeve grips.
Adjust
Easier
The top player calls the passing direction before each attempt so the bottom player can rehearse the defensive coordination.
Harder
Let the top player scoop an elevated leg and pass over it. Add a 60-second limit — the bottom player wins if it expires.
If it stalls
If grip fighting and leg movement happen separately, cue: “Strip the grip while your hips are already turning.”
