Back Escape
escapes
Grapplers Collective, Back Escape. 5-6 min rounds.
Problem
Sequenced escape priorities and calm execution from back control under choke threat.
Tell the room
Top has the seatbelt and both hooks. Bottom fights the choking hand first, then clears the hooks, then turns in. Top scores by holding full back control for 60 seconds.
Setup
Start in full back control. Attacker seated behind with the seatbelt and both hooks in. Defender seated, chin tucked, both hands on the choking wrist.
Score
Escape, or hold 60 seconds.
- Bottom — recovers guard, reaches neutral, or reverses to top
- Top — finishes any choke from the back
- Top — keeps the seatbelt and both hooks for 60 seconds
- Top — takes mount when the bottom turns in
Rules
- Chokes only. The top player attacks the neck and nothing else.
- Hands before hooks. Bottom clears the seatbelt first, then the hooks, then turns.
- No slams or lifts. Escape with position, not explosive power.
- A re-inserted hook restarts play. Top may recover a hook and keep working.
Adjust
Easier
Drop the choke, start with one hook in, and run the top player at 60-70%.
Harder
Allow every submission from the back, cut the control win to 30 seconds, and drop the hands-before-hooks rule.
If it stalls
If the bottom fights hooks with the neck open, ask which finishes faster — a lost hook or a sinking choke.
