Tackle Finish to Pin
transitions
Grapplers Collective, Tackle Finish to Pin. 3-5 min rounds.
Problem
Converting a tackle into a hips-down pin or a chest-to-back sandwich without releasing control.
Tell the room
Attacker: tackle the kneeling defender and hold them down. Defender: stand back up and break contact. The position goes live the moment any part of the defender's torso touches the mat.
Setup
Tackle from a soft start. Defender kneels tall, hands above the waist. Attacker tackles from engagement distance with any leg or body lock. No reset after the landing.
Score
Hips down or chest to back.
- Attacker: defender's hips pinned to the mat for 5 continuous seconds
- Attacker: chest-to-back seatbelt — arm over the far shoulder, arm under the near armpit
- Defender: stands with both feet on the mat and no contact
Rules
- Never release what you caught. Keep leg or torso contact until the score is locked.
- Lock the score before finishing. Strangles and joint attacks count only after the pin or sandwich holds.
- Defender escapes by standing only. No guard pulls, no leg attacks from the bottom.
Adjust
Easier
Drop the hip pin to 3 seconds and accept any chest-to-chest or chest-to-back contact as the score.
Harder
Require the chest-to-back sandwich with no hip-pin shortcut, and add a 20-second clock; a timeout gives the defender the point.
If it stalls
If the attacker keeps releasing the legs to climb up the body, cue: “Stay heavy on what you caught.”
