Double Leg Drive

TakedownsStandingBeginner

takedowns

Grapplers Collective, Double Leg Drive. 3-5 min rounds.

Problem

Penetration step, knee drop, and drive mechanics on a static defender — finish to a pin.

Tell the room

Attacker shoots a double leg and drives sideways. The defender stands still until a hip touches the mat, then fights to get back up. The hip pin counts after a continuous 5-second count.

Setup

Start at engagement distance. Both standing, facing each other. The defender's hands rest at waist height, feet square or staggered, no grips on either side.

Score

Pin the hips for 5 seconds.

  • Attacker — hips pinned to the mat for a continuous 5 seconds
  • Attacker — chest-to-back or chest-to-chest with both hips covered
  • Defender — both feet on the mat, hips up, all contact broken

Rules

  1. Defender stays still on the shot. No sprawl, no guillotine, no step back until a hip lands.
  2. Stay attached until the score. The attacker cannot release leg or torso contact to reset.
  3. No early submissions. Strangles and joint attacks score nothing before the pin or cover.

Adjust

Easier

The defender takes a wider, lower stance with feet planted, and the hip pin drops to 3 seconds.

Harder

The defender picks one defense before each shot — a single sprawl or one down-block on the head.

If it stalls

If the attacker keeps landing on their stomach from too far out, cue: “Step on their toes before you change levels.”
