Active Shot vs Sprawl
standup
InGrappling, Active Shot vs Sprawl.
Problem
Defender mid-sprawl — hips forward, arms framed across the shooter’s upper back, partially sprawled but not fully committed.
Tell the room
Finish the sprawl, then go behind or to front headlock. Finish the takedown from the mid-shot.
Setup
Defender mid-sprawl — hips forward, arms framed across the shooter’s upper back, partially sprawled but not fully committed. (Source labels this win path as Top.) Shooter mid-shot — one knee on the mat, head outside the defender’s hip on the chosen side, both hands gripping behind the defender’s knees. (Source labels this win path as Bottom.)
Score
Complete the sprawl (chest-to-back contact established, shooter’s hips on the mat), then go behind to seatbelt back control or a confirmed front headlock with chest-to-back for two seconds. Finish the takedown — shooter’s chest arrives on the defender’s torso with the defender’s hips off the mat, or with both legs lifted to a finishing position.
Rules
- Sprawl onto the shooter’s upper back / shoulder blades, not onto the shoulder joint (no posting a hand in a way that loads the shooter’s shoulder downward).
- Roles switch each rep.
- Reset on either win, on a five-second stall, or at thirty seconds.
- Default round length 30s.
- May not abandon the shot and reshoot — the rep stays in the mid-shot.
- Same 30s / stall reset rules.
