Under the Elbow

Grapplers Collective, Under the Elbow. 5-6 min rounds.

Problem

Digging an underhook from mount, then driving that arm to the head.

Tell the room

Top gets under or across an elbow and drives that arm to the bottom's own head. Bottom recovers guard or reverses. Three seconds counts, and chest to back counts if the bottom turns away.

Setup

Start mounted with nothing in. Top in full mount, hips low, hands free. Bottom flat, both elbows pinned to the ribs.

Score

Under or across, then up.

  • Top — the bottom's biceps held against their own head for three seconds
  • Top — chest to back when the bottom turns away, held three seconds
  • Bottom — recovers any guard, or reverses to top

Rules

  1. Under or across, then up. Threading under the arm and dragging it across both count as ways in.
  2. Trap it, do not grip it. Hands may move the arm. The count needs a knee, shin, head, or chest.
  3. Mount only until the turn. Chest to back counts only when the bottom turns away first.
  4. No submissions. The control is the score.

Adjust

Easier

Bottom starts with one elbow off the ribs, so the first dig has a gap.

Harder

Top calls which side they will dig before the round starts.

If it stalls

If the top paws at the hands and gets bridged, ask what their chest and hips are doing first.
