Seatbelt Without Hooks

Grapplers Collective, Seatbelt Without Hooks. 3-5 min rounds.

Problem

Holding chest-to-back with the seatbelt grip alone, using shoulder and hip pressure instead of hooks.

Tell the room

Attacker holds chest-to-back with the seatbelt only, no hooks. Defender turns in to face them or gets their back flat on the mat. Only the defender scores. The attacker's task runs until they get out.

Setup

Start from a no-hooks seatbelt. Defender on their side or back. Attacker behind, chest to back, hands clasped at the chest, both legs off and free to post.

Score

Turn in, or get the back flat.

  • Defender — turns fully chest-to-chest, on top or bottom
  • Defender — puts their back flat with the attacker no longer behind
  • Attacker — does not score. The round measures how long they hold

Rules

  1. No hooks. Legs may post and frame on the mat, never hook the defender.
  2. No submissions. Strangles and joint attacks stay off the table all round.
  3. No guard pulls. The defender scores by turning to face or going back-flat.

Adjust

Easier

Defender works at half speed for the first exchange, so the attacker feels the connection hold.

Harder

Drop the seatbelt requirement — any arm grip counts: overhook, underhook, bicep tie. Still no hooks.

If it stalls

If the defender keeps rotating out under the free side, cue: "Stay heavy on the over-shoulder side."
