Elbow Hunting
pins
Grapplers Collective, Elbow Hunting. 3-5 min rounds.
Problem
Elbow control from mount and the defensive instincts to deny it.
Tell the room
Start in mount. Top digs both arms under the elbows and locks hands. Bottom recovers guard or reverses. Hold the lock for 3 seconds.
Setup
Start in full mount. Top sits on the hips, hands on the mat beside the head. Bottom lies flat, elbows tight to the ribs, hands near the chin.
Score
Lock the elbows for 3 seconds.
- Top — both arms under the elbows, hands locked
- Bottom — recovers any guard with the legs engaged
- Bottom — reverses to top
Rules
- No submissions. Play the position. Nothing gets finished.
- Hunt elbows, not the head. Top may not use collar ties or head control.
- Frame before you bridge. Bottom's first action must be a frame or hip escape, not a bridge and roll.
Adjust
Easier
Start the top player with one arm already under an elbow. Bottom only has to deny the second.
Harder
Drop the bridge restriction, allow collar and head control, and add submissions once elbow control is set.
If it stalls
If top locks up within seconds every round, show the bottom player what elbows tight to the ribs looks like.
