Sprawl to Front Headlock

TakedownsStandingBeginner

takedowns

Grapplers Collective, Sprawl to Front Headlock. 3-5 min rounds.

Problem

Integrated sprawl-to-front-headlock as a single defensive action.

Tell the room

Defender keeps both arms behind the back until the shot touches the legs, then sprawls and takes a front headlock. The grip must land within 3 seconds of leg contact and carry chest-to-back pressure.

Setup

Trap the defender's hands behind the back. Both standing at close wrestling distance. The shooter has free hands and the initiative; the defender's arms stay clasped behind the lower back.

Score

Front headlock inside 3 seconds.

  • Defender — chin strap, head-and-arm, or head wrap with chest-to-back pressure
  • Shooter — the defender fails to get that grip inside 3 seconds
  • Shooter — drive through to back exposure, both knees down, or sustained leg control

Rules

  1. Hips, not hands. The defender's arms stay behind the back until the shot contacts the legs.
  2. Shoot at 50-70%. Keep real direction, timing, and level change at controlled speed.
  3. Three seconds to convert. Head control must follow the sprawl without a pause.
  4. Leg attacks only. No throws or trips.

Adjust

Easier

Remove the 3-second timer and drop the shooter to 40-50% speed.

Harder

Raise the shooter to 80-90% with fakes and level changes before entry, and cut the window to 2 seconds.

If it stalls

If the defender reaches for the head first, cue chest on the back, then the head through the pressure.
