TOP PLAYER (ATTACKER)
POSITION
Standing and disconnected in the center of a 3m × 3m square. No grips, no contact at the start. Tape, mat edges, or coach calls mark the boundary.
OBJECTIVE
Walk the defender out of the square with pressure.
CONSTRAINTS
No takedowns or jumping guard. Move them with pressure, not by taking them down. Stay on the feet. If either player goes down, reset and award the point to the other side. Grip within 5 seconds of each reset. Make at least one point of contact before maneuvering. Reset when the attacker puts a weighted foot fully outside the square, when the defender survives the round inside the square, or when either player goes down. 3-4 min rounds.
WIN CONDITION
Defender’s foot lands fully outside the square with the weight on it.
BOTTOM PLAYER (DEFENDER)
POSITION
Standing and disconnected in the center of the same 3m × 3m square. No grips, no contact at the start.
OBJECTIVE
Survive the round without crossing the line.
CONSTRAINTS
Same no-takedown, stay-on-the-feet, grip-within-5-seconds, and named reset rules. 3-4 min rounds.
WIN CONDITION
Survive the round inside the square.
Grapplers Collective, Standing Boundary Push. 3-4 min rounds.
Problem
Walking the partner out of their mat space using grip, frame, and forward pressure.
Tell the room
Attacker walks the defender out of the square. Defender survives the round without crossing the line. A foot over the line counts only when the weight follows.
Setup
Mark a 3m × 3m square. Both start in the center, standing and disconnected. No grips, no contact. Tape, mat edges, or coach calls mark the boundary.
Score
Put a foot out of bounds.
- Attacker — defender's foot lands fully outside with the weight on it
- Defender — survives the round inside the square
Rules
- No takedowns or jumping guard. Move them with pressure, not by taking them down.
- Stay on the feet. If either player goes down, reset and award the point to the other side.
- Grip within 5 seconds of each reset. Make at least one point of contact before maneuvering.
Adjust
Easier
Grow the square to 4m × 4m so the attacker can build pressure without the boundary doing the work.
Harder
Shrink to 2m × 2m and give the attacker 30 seconds per exchange or the defender takes the point.
If it stalls
If athletes circle without committing forward, cue: “Make them carry your weight.”
