TOP PLAYER
POSITION
Attacker in full ashi garami with hip-to-hip connection confirmed. Ankle-lock grip already on (forearm under the Achilles, heel in the elbow crook) before the clock.
OBJECTIVE
Keep the entanglement and finish the straight ankle lock.
CONSTRAINTS
Ankle lock only — no heel hooks. Elevated safety. Confirm tap-release reliability before running it. Both players confirm tap protocol before the first rep (two taps plus verbal tap; stop extension at the tap; ten-second pause between rounds). Reset when the top player achieves a tap, when the bottom player achieves clean leg extraction and three seconds of separation, or when either player requests a reset. Default rounds 3:00.
WIN CONDITION
Force the tap by extending the ankle line from ashi garami.
BOTTOM PLAYER
POSITION
Extractor trapped in ashi with the ankle-lock grip already set.
OBJECTIVE
Hide the heel, break hip connection, and get the leg out.
CONSTRAINTS
Same ankle-only and tap-protocol rules. Tools named by source: hide the heel, secondary-leg push on the attacker's hip, knee flexion, full extraction toward the chest.
WIN CONDITION
Extract the leg cleanly from ashi garami and achieve separation from the attacker's control for three continuous seconds.

Problem
Attacker in full ashi garami with hip-to-hip connection confirmed.
Setup
Attacker in full ashi garami with hip-to-hip connection confirmed. Ankle-lock grip already on (forearm under the Achilles, heel in the elbow crook) before the clock. Extractor trapped in ashi with the ankle-lock grip already set.
Score
Force the tap by extending the ankle line from ashi garami. Extract the leg cleanly from ashi garami and achieve separation from the attacker's control for three continuous seconds.
Rules
- Ankle lock only — no heel hooks.
- Elevated safety.
- Confirm tap-release reliability before running it.
- Both players confirm tap protocol before the first rep (two taps plus verbal tap; stop extension at the tap; ten-second pause between rounds).
- Reset when the top player achieves a tap, when the bottom player achieves clean leg extraction and three seconds of separation, or when either player requests a reset.
- Default rounds 3:00.
- Same ankle-only and tap-protocol rules.
- Tools named by source: hide the heel, secondary-leg push on the attacker's hip, knee flexion, full extraction toward the chest.
Progressions
Harder constraint variants from the source. Same game, tighter problem.
- Add the toe hold as a second available finish — the attacker now chooses between ankle lock and toe hold based on what the extractor’s defence exposes.
- Allow the extractor to counter-entangle (entering 50/50 or outside ashi). This makes the game a full leg entanglement exchange with finish pressure.
- Run with a submission-only win condition: the attacker does not win by positional time, only by tap. This increases attacker urgency and trains finish commitment.
