Rear Strangle or Shin Pass
guard
Grapplers Collective, Rear Strangle or Shin Pass. 5-6 min rounds.
Problem
Bottom player chases the rear naked choke finish; top player must collect four shin-and-outside-body checkpoints to score the pass.
Tell the room
Bottom starts seated and hunts the rear naked choke. Top banks four checkpoints — a shin on each hamstring and outside-body contact on each side. Every checkpoint and the choke hold for 5 seconds.
Setup
Start seated and unconnected. Bottom seated with hips up, hands free. Top standing in a passing posture. No contact between them.
Score
Hold each position for 5 seconds.
- Bottom — finishes a rear naked choke with a hook or leg control
- Top — banks all four checkpoints: a shin on each hamstring, outside body each side
Rules
- Top stays off the mat. Never both knees or both hands down; one foot stays weighted.
- Losing posture wipes the bank. Hands or hips to the mat reset all collected checkpoints.
- Bottom cannot stand. Build the back take and the choke from seated or hips up.
Adjust
Easier
Drop the outside-body pair. Top wins on the two shin-on-hamstring checkpoints alone.
Harder
Require the checkpoints in order — shin left, outside left, shin right, outside right.
If it stalls
If the top player's hips keep getting dumped, ask them: "Whose hip is lower right now?"
