Leg Lock Entry Defense
transitions
Grapplers Collective, Leg Lock Entry Defense. 3-5 min rounds.
Problem
Defensive framework for clearing legs and recovering from entanglements.
Tell the room
The defender starts with one leg trapped in ashi garami and must clear it to standing or guard. The attacker keeps the entanglement and the knee line. The attacker scores by holding that control for 3 seconds once the escape starts.
Setup
Start in ashi garami. Attacker seated, defender's leg in single leg X with the heel hook grip set. Defender's free leg posted, one hand on the attacker's knee or foot.
Score
Clear the leg or hold it.
- Defender: clear the entanglement, then stand to neutral or recover any guard
- Attacker: hold the entanglement and knee line for 3 seconds once the escape starts
- Attacker: re-establish a heel hook grip with the knee line controlled after a partial clear
Rules
- No heel hook finishes. The attacker hunts position, not the tap.
- Stay in the legs. No knee bars, toe holds, or upper-body attacks.
- Standing is not clearing. The defender must strip the grips and legs before recovering.
Adjust
Easier
The attacker holds at 70% resistance, with no re-gripping and no leg re-insertion.
Harder
Allow controlled heel hook finishes and transitions between ashi positions: inside to outside, single leg X to 50/50.
If it stalls
If the defender still panics, start shallower, with the attacker's foot on the hip instead of full ashi garami.
