Underhook vs Whizzer

TakedownsStandingAdvanced

takedowns

Grapplers Collective, Underhook vs Whizzer. 3-5 min rounds.

Problem

Breaking the whizzer wall to convert underhook into a step-behind takedown.

Tell the room

Attacker starts with the underhook, defender with a tight whizzer. Attacker dumps them backward; defender takes the back or strips the arm. The defender must attack within 5 seconds — a whizzer held still loses a point.

Setup

Start underhook against whizzer. Attacker's underhook deep. Defender's overhook wraps it, gripping the biceps, base wide, hips back, attacker's posture already compressed.

Score

Backward dump or arm stripped.

  • Attacker — defender lands butt or back, underhook held through the fall
  • Defender — take the back, chest behind the shoulder line, hands on the body
  • Defender — strip both attacker arms outside, 2-on-1 or 2-on-2, held 2 seconds

Rules

  1. No diving to the legs. Dropping to a knee from the underhook side resets the exchange, point to the defender.
  2. The whizzer must threaten. Five seconds of static overhook without a back take or strip loses a point.
  3. Backward finishes only. Forward throws do not score even when the whizzer offers one.

Adjust

Easier

Defender frames on the shoulder instead of whizzering, so the attacker solves the entry first.

Harder

Defender starts in a higher whizzer, attacker's posture already broken to 45 degrees.

If it stalls

If the attacker walks around the whizzer, cue: “Drop your underhook hip and go under the armpit, not around it.”
