Swing-Arm Dive

TakedownsStandingBeginner

takedowns

Grapplers Collective, Swing-Arm Dive. 60-90 sec rounds.

Problem

Standing warm-up that builds the level change and free-hand dive for singles and duck-unders out of a tied-up arm.

Tell the room

From a cross-grip wrist tie, swing your free hand under the joined hands and touch the partner's same-side knee. One of your own knees must be on the mat as the hand lands.

Setup

Tie up cross-grip at the wrist. Both standing at wrestling distance, your right hand on their left wrist or your left on their right. Free hand at chest height.

Score

Same-side knee with a knee down.

  • Open-palm touch on the partner's same-side knee, under the joined hands
  • At least one of your own knees on the mat as the hand lands
  • Swipes, tags, and standing reaches do not score

Rules

  1. Keep the cross-grip live. If the wrist connection breaks, both players reset before continuing.
  2. Same-side knee only. Free left hand to their left knee, free right to their right.
  3. Swing under, not over. The free hand travels under or around the joined hands.
  4. Stop at the touch. No takedowns, no clinching past the wrist tie, no ground.

Adjust

Easier

Drop the dropped-knee requirement and let the touch land from any stance.

Harder

Let the scorer continue into a single leg or a body lock for double, with the partner defending.

If it stalls

If athletes reach long-armed from a tall stance, ask where the shoulder should go on the swing.
