takedowns

Grapplers Collective, Collar Tie Takedown. 3-5 min rounds.

Problem

Finishing takedowns from the wrestling clinch using posture control and timing.

Tell the room

Start in a collar tie, forehead to forehead. Finish any takedown from that contact without breaking away first. It only counts if you land in a dominant or neutral position.

Setup

Start in the collar tie. Both standing, forehead to forehead. One hand on the neck, the other on the elbow or bicep. Neither has an advantage.

Score

Finish and land in control.

  • Any takedown from the tie: snap down, drag, single, double, throw, sweep
  • Land in a dominant or neutral position, not underneath
  • No point if both fall with neither in control

Rules

  1. Finish from contact. Every takedown starts from the tie, not from open distance.
  2. No guard pulls. Solve the position standing.
  3. Do not break apart. Fully disengaging to reset gives the other player a point.

Adjust

Easier

Snap downs and arm drags only, no leg attacks. Slow the pace so athletes can read head position.

Harder

The takedown must lead to side control, mount, or back, held for 3 seconds.

If it stalls

If players keep breaking apart, enforce the penalty and ask: “What move are you avoiding by resetting?”
