Russian Tie (Two-on-One) Battle
standup
InGrappling, Russian Tie (Two-on-One) Battle.
Problem
Attacker with a Russian tie on the defender’s left arm — both hands on that arm (one at the wrist, one at the elbow or upper arm).
Tell the room
Convert the Russian tie to back exposure or a takedown. Break the tie and return to neutral.
Setup
Attacker with a Russian tie on the defender’s left arm — both hands on that arm (one at the wrist, one at the elbow or upper arm). Bodies at angle with the attacker’s head outside the defender’s left shoulder. No prior grips on the defender’s right arm. Defender in the Russian tie — left arm controlled, free hand available.
Score
Score a back take (chest-to-back with hip contact for two seconds), score a takedown (defender’s back, side, or hip lands on the mat), or complete a clean arm drag to back exposure. Break the Russian tie grip (both of the attacker’s hands removed from the controlled arm) and reset to a neutral fighting stance for two continuous seconds.
Rules
- Available actions include duck-under to back exposure, arm drag to back exposure, drop to a single while keeping the tie, snap-down to front headlock, and foot sweeps with the controlled-arm side weighted.
- Roles switch every round.
- Reset when the attacker hits a win or the defender completes a clean grip break plus a two-second neutral reset.
- Default round length 1:00.
- May peel one or both hands of the tie off the controlled arm, frame the attacker’s head with the free hand to widen the angle, step out of the angle to reset distance, or drop level to defend the duck-under or knee-pick.
- May not initiate a counter-tie — defend the existing tie, do not convert into a different grip war.
