Passing the critical knee line boundary and recovering guard at that moment.
Tell the room
Top works past the bottom player's knee line and settles there. Bottom starts recovering the moment that line is crossed. Hold the chest contact past the line for 3 seconds.
Setup
Start at the feet. Top at the bottom player's feet, controlling ankles or pant cuffs. Bottom supine, knees bent, feet framing. Both grip freely.
Score
Three seconds past the knee line.
- Top — torso past the knee line, chest on hip or chest
- Bottom — recovers guard to feet on hips
- Bottom — sweeps to top
Rules
- No leg locks. Neither player attacks the legs.
- Bottom stays down. The bottom player may not stand up to escape.
- Pass through the knee line. Top may not jump straight to mount.
Adjust
Easier
Start the top player past the feet with both hands on the bottom player's knees, so only the knee-line battle remains.
Harder
Require full side control for the top player to score, which gives the bottom player a longer recovery window.
If it stalls
If the top player rushes and gets re-guarded, remind them the 3-second hold is the game — settling wins.
