TOP PLAYER (ATTACKER)

POSITION

Attacker stands, free to grip and snap. The attacker keeps whatever position the snap created.

OBJECTIVE

Snap the kneeling defender's hands to the mat, then climb behind before they re-base. The position goes live the moment both of the defender's hands touch the mat.

CONSTRAINTS

Hands stay apart until behind. No body lock, gable grip, or front bear hug from the snap. Lock control before finishing. Strangles and joint attacks count only after the back or pin is set. Defender escapes by standing only. No pulling guard, no rolling voluntarily onto the back. Reset when the attacker locks a chest-to-back sandwich — arm over the far shoulder, arm under the near armpit; when the attacker pins the defender's hips to the mat for 5 continuous seconds; or when the defender stands with both feet on the mat and no contact. 3-5 min rounds.

WIN CONDITION

Chest-to-back sandwich — arm over the far shoulder, arm under the near armpit; or the defender's hips pinned to the mat for 5 continuous seconds.

BOTTOM PLAYER (DEFENDER)

POSITION

Defender kneels tall, hands above the waist.

OBJECTIVE

Stand up and break contact. The position goes live the moment both of the defender's hands touch the mat.

CONSTRAINTS

Same hands-stay-apart-until-behind, lock-control-before-finishing, stand-up-only, and named reset rules. 3-5 min rounds.

WIN CONDITION

Stands with both feet on the mat and no contact.

Grapplers Collective, Hand Snap to Back Take. 3-5 min rounds.

Problem

Attacking the back the moment the partner's hands hit the mat, before they can re-base.

Tell the room

Attacker: snap the kneeling defender's hands to the mat, then climb behind before they re-base. Defender: stand up and break contact. The position goes live the moment both of the defender's hands touch the mat.

Setup

Snap the hands to the mat. Defender kneels tall, hands above the waist. Attacker stands, free to grip and snap. The attacker keeps whatever position the snap created.

Score

Behind the back or hips down.

  • Attacker: chest-to-back sandwich — arm over the far shoulder, arm under the near armpit
  • Attacker: defender's hips pinned to the mat for 5 continuous seconds
  • Defender: stands with both feet on the mat and no contact

Rules

  1. Hands stay apart until behind. No body lock, gable grip, or front bear hug from the snap.
  2. Lock control before finishing. Strangles and joint attacks count only after the back or pin is set.
  3. Defender escapes by standing only. No pulling guard, no rolling voluntarily onto the back.

Adjust

Easier

Remove the no-clasp rule. The attacker can use a front body lock and wins by either scoring path.

Harder

Require the back-take score with no hip-pin shortcut, and add a 15-second clock per exchange.

If it stalls

If the attacker keeps clasping hands in front out of habit, cue: “Your hands are walking, not hugging.”
