SETUP

Everyone starts in the same place with the same first task. The attacker's win changes with experience:

  1. Six months or less: control the second leg, any way you like.
  2. Two years or less: move the trapped leg onto either shoulder or across your body without losing control of it.
  3. More experienced (he says "10 years and less or seven, whatever you want"): move the trapped leg from one side of your body to the other, then control the second leg.

TOP PLAYER (ATTACKER)

POSITION

Seated, perpendicular to your partner, in cross ashi. Your leg closest to them goes over the top and between their legs. Your far leg goes under both of their legs, like a tic-tac-toe board. Start with their leg controlled.

OBJECTIVE

Keep their knee on your side, then finish your level's task.

CONSTRAINTS

Your feet and legs can do anything (triangle, whatever you like). First task for everyone: don't let their knee cross to the far side of your legs. He calls it the knee plane, from their knee to their hip. If the knee gets across, you lose and you switch roles. Ours, not the source's: tap early, and release the moment your partner taps.

WIN CONDITION

Complete your level's task (see Setup) without losing control of the trapped leg.

BOTTOM PLAYER (DEFENDER)

POSITION

Seated with your legs out straight or a little bent, one leg trapped in their cross ashi.

OBJECTIVE

Stop them controlling the leg and free it.

CONSTRAINTS

You can use your free leg to free the trapped one. Ours, not the source's: tap early, and release the moment your partner taps.

WIN CONDITION

Get your trapped knee to the other side of their legs.

Elevated safety. Confirm tap-and-release before the first rep. Stop at the tap. Do not run this if the room is not already serious about it.
